Energy for the Future

Recently a start up company, Hyperion, in Santa Fe New Mexico revealed a new form of technology that could really help wean the United States off foreign oil. The device generates power from a new nuclear power process and they actually like to refer to this device as a batter,y probably due to it's very small size. The technology appears to be truly remarkable and along with its diminutive size appears to be inherently safe to operate. Use of this power source would lead to many town and cities installing these batteries and hence weaning us all off dependence of foreign oil. Well done American entrepreneurs! I can see other uses of this power source as a way to economically extract oil from the huge amounts of shale reserves we have in Colorado and California. The trick will be to convince the vast majority of the American public this technology is safe, affordable and will not result in any health hazards. Unfortunately when you couple the word nuclear with any other word imaginable you get hysteria from the environmentalists. Their buddies in the media, who forgot how to research a story objectively a long time ago, will also go after this new technology with the intent of killing it off, preferring to cover stories of people freezing to death in the northeast due to the high cost of imported oil.
